CAP has the mission of identifying peoples' needs in their service area through surveys, needs assessments and continual interaction with local citizens. CAP coordinates with local businesses, governments, and agencies to expand and prevent duplication of services. CAP focuses on serving the low-income populations in an six county area of Western Indiana. It was created to provide self-help and self-sufficiency opportunities for the target group. Programs administered by CAP at this field office are: * MAC Transportation (For elderly and disabled) * Homemaker/CHOICE (Supportive services to help prevent premature institutionalization of elderly or disabled. Light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation and limited personal care) * Energy Assistance Program (One-time credit averaging $250 per household) * Weatherization (Reduce cold air infiltration into homes and safe heating systems) * Housing & Development (Housing rentals, Section 8 housing for low-income people) * WIC Women, Infants, Children (Nutrition program for at-risk pregnant breast-feeding or postpartum women and infants and children to age five. Voucher system at stores) * Child care voucher program (Provides seamless services that are accessible and affordable for children to 13 years old. Subsidized child care, voucher system) * Head Start (Child development program for low-income 4-5 year old preschoolers. Education, health, social services, family involvement, nutrition and disability services) * Employment & Training (Broad range of services in employment and training for both participants and employers. Targets youth, adults, dislocated and older workers, dropouts, single parents, and displaced homemakers.
