CRIS Healthy-Aging Centee Located at 309 North Franklin in Danville, is the headquarters for CRIS and a host of activities and services for senior citizens in Vermilion County. Many seniors in the area drop in daily for a few friendly rounds of pool, to play cards, watch TV, gather with friends or just relax in a homelike comfortable environment. Scheduled activities include bingo, euchre groups, picnics, holiday dances, bowling and parties. CRIS - SAMS A nutritious, hot meal and a chance to visit with people of the same age is available at 8 locations in Vermilion County every weekday. CRIS-SAMS meals are available to anyone age 60 or older and their spouse, regardless of the spouse's age. Reservations must be made one working day in advance by calling 443-2999 between 8 AM and 1 PM CRIS - SAMS meals are served on a donation basis. All CRIS-SAMS meals are a general diet of 1/3 recommended dietary allowance for adults. CRIS Senior Adult Meal Service (SAMS) nutrition sites are located in the following communities: Danville (3 Locations), Georgetown, Hoopeston, Rankin, Ridge Farm, and Westville. Home Delivered Meals Homebound, or recovering from surgery, citizens over and under 60 can receive a daily hot meal delivered to their door through the CRIS Home Delivered Meals Program. Besides nutritious meals, senior benefit by having daily social contact with volunteers who deliver meals. If the client does not answer the door, the volunteers, who are from the various civic, social organizations, and area churches will secure assistance. Transportation CRIS vehicles, equipped with lifts for wheelchairs, provide transportation to persons outside Danville urbanized area, but within Vermilion County, senior citizens and people with disabilities in Danville. Seniors in Danville-Ride on a donation basis as service is available Seniors and people with disabilities in the un-urbanized area. Rides are on a fare basis. People with disabilities under 60 in Danville urbanized area may ride by calling Danville Mass Transit at 431-0653 to establish ADA Certification. Trained drivers provide curb-to-curb assistance. A personal care attendant may ride free of charge for those riders requiring door-to-door assistance. Reservations for rides must be made 2 days in advance except for ADA rides must be made at least one day in advance. For questions about hours of operation or to make reservations, please call CRIS. All fairs must be paid when boarding the van. Caregiver Advisory Services CRIS Caregiver Advisory Services provides supportive services to caregivers (adult family members or another individual, who is an informal provider of in-home care to an older individual) and grandparents raising grandchildren. Services offered include: * Individual consultation, support services and mentorship to families who are coping with the increasing stresses of care giving. * Assistance with respite care for those individuals who need a break from care giving of their loved one over 60 or childcare for those over 60 caring for grandchildren under 18. Victim Assistance Program The CRIS Victim Assistance Program offers services to crime victims who are age 55 and over. We understand the trauma that senior victims are faced with and offer comprehensive services to support then during this difficult time. Services provided include: legal advocacy, accompaniment to court, court related appointments, the police department, accompaniment on all case related matters, and referral for other services that may be needed. Violence Prevention The Illinois Violence Prevention Authority (IVPA) was created by the Illinois Violence Prevention Act of 1995. CRIS has a Violence Prevention specialist on staff, which is supported by funds from the IVPA. The violence Prevention Specialist speaks to groups about elder abuse in an effort to educate and prevent elder abuse. In-Home Care Program Certified Nurses Aides are trained technicians who provide in-home care to individuals who are being placed in nursing homes and other institutions. Visits are made as often as the patients require. The services are available to any resident of Vermilion County age 60 and older as funding permits. Donations are requested in the amount the client can afford. Elder Abuse Elder Abuse is a problem that threatens the physical and mental health of thousands of people over 60 in our society today. Types of abuse include physical, sexual, emotional, confinement, passive neglect, willful deprivation and financial exploitation. The Illinois Department of Aging has designated CRIS Senior Services as the agency in Vermilion County to investigate reports on elder abuse. CRIS has a staff of case workers specially trained to handle elder abuse issues. Illinois Law designates certain individuals as mandatory reporters. Other individuals or institutions are encouraged to report suspected cases of elder abuse and receive immunity if the report is in good faith. Anonymous reports are also acceptable. To report suspected cases of abuse or schedule a presentation for your group, call the Department of Aging/Senior Helpline, 1-800-252-8966 or CRIS. *CRIS produces a newsletter "The Silver lining" available 4 times per year. * CRIS has volunteer opportunities available. Opportunities offered are in the following areas: clerical work, meal delivery, assistance at events, janitorial work, light vehicle maintenance.
